BOARD OF ZONING APPEALS AND ZONING COMMISSION CLERKS NEEDED

Monroe Township is seeking the position of Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA) Clerk and also the position of Zoning Commission Clerk.

The Board of Zoning Appeals hears and decides appeals, variances, and other matters as authorized under the Ohio Revised Code and the Monroe Township Zoning Resolution.

The job of the Zoning Commission is to review, and provides recommendations for, all re-zoning and planned development requests within the Township. The Zoning Commission also develops recommended zoning regulations for the Board of Trustees and assists in the development of the Township's comprehensive plan.

 

Key Information:

- Residency Requirement: Must reside in the unincorporated area of Monroe Township

- Appointments: Made by the Board of Township Trustees

- Compensation: Will be determined

- Meetings: As scheduled, typically in the evening

-Applicants should have an interest in local government, land use, planning, or zoning matters and be willing to review materials, attend meetings, and make decisions in a fair and impartial manner. Prior experience is helpful but not required.

The public meeting will be held at the Monroe Township Complex 7621 Johnstown-Alexandria Road, Johnstown, Ohio 43031.  All are invited to attend and voice opinions you may have regarding the proposed amendments.

Legal Notice

The Board of Zoning Appeals public hearing that was held on March 5 @7:00 PM was continued  and will be held  on March 12 as outlined below.

The Monroe Township Board of Zoning Appeals will hold a public hearing on March 12, 2026 at 7:00 pm at the Monroe Township Building located at 7621 Johnstown-Alexandria Road Johnstown, OH 43031, for Case Number 2025-09-A to consider an application of appeal filed by Kyle Hamilton & Sierra Little for the property at 14396 Blamer Road, Johnstown, OH (the “Property”). The application of appeal is on a zoning violation issued by the Township Zoning Inspector for an unlawful use of a trucking business being conducted at the Property in violation of the Monroe Township Zoning Resolution.

Monroe township has a new service provider for 
RESIDENTIAL TRASH AND RECYCLING PICKUP

Shackleford's Disposal is excited to announce we have been chosen by Monroe Township to provide residential trash hauling services from 11/24-11/27. We want to welcome everyone to Shackleford's Disposal, we are looking forward to working with you. Here at Shackleford's Disposal we work diligently to provide good, clean, professional service that other companies may otherwise overlook. Trash pick-up is collected weekly every Tuesday except for holiday weeks when the pick-up is on Wednesday. Items should be placed out the night prior to the day of pick-up. A 96-gallon Waste tote will be provided to each household. You may use your own container or bags if the container has a lid, handles and does not weigh more than 50 pounds. To initiate service, please call Shackleford' s Disposal at 740-366-0001. Refuse service is billed quarterly at a rate of $17.00 per month, per household or a senior rate of $15.30 per month for individuals 65 years and older. We look forward to servicing your community and building great relationships within the township.

Recycling will also be available and is optional. Pickup for recycling will be every other Tuesday and will be added to your regular quarterly bill at a rate of $9.95 a month.  One rollout container will be provided at no cost.  Please call us if you are interested in this service.

Residents can typically recycle the following items (with subscribed service)

Plastic bottles and jugs, Glass bottles and jars, Aluminum cans, Steel cans and lids, Paperboard (like cereal boxes), Office Paper, Envelopes and junk mail, Newspapers, magazines and inserts, Telephone books and catalogs.

SB 243 HAS THE POTENTIAL TO REMOVE THE TOWNSHIPS' ZONING AUTHORITY AND GIVE THIS POWER TO THE STATE.
