PUBLIC HEARING

There will be a public hearing on Monday September 15 6:45 PM at the Monroe Township hall located at 7621 Johnstown-Alex Road.

Monroe Township Trustees will vote to accept, deny, or accept with modifications a text amendment change (Z-25-14) that was recommended by the Zoning Commission.  This text amendment would change the Airports/Aircraft definition in Article 2 and would also change Section 10.2 item 3 from Private Aviation Fields to Private Airport.

  • Current Definition. The currently adopted definition of Airports/Aircraft is as follows: “Any runway, land area or other facility designed or used either publicly or privately by any person for the landing and taking off of aircraft, including all necessary taxiways, aircraft storage and tie-down areas, hangars, and other necessary buildings and open spaces as approved by the FAA.”
  • Proposed Zoning Changes. As proposed, the township would amend the zoning code to include the following definition for Airport: “Any runway, land area, or other facility designed or used either publicly or privately by any person or business for the purpose of transportation by aircraft; operation of aircraft; training on aircraft; maintenance and repair of aircraft; sales and service of aircraft; storage of aircraft and all other activities connected therewith or incidental thereto. Airports include runways; taxiways; open space; buildings for aircraft storage; maintenance, repair, service, training and sales; hangars; tie-down areas; and any other structures ancillary to airport operations.”
  • Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The FAA defines “airport” as “any area of land or water, including any heliport, that is used or intended to be used for the landing and takeoff of aircraft, and any appurtenant areas that are used or intended to be used for airport buildings or other airport facilities or rights-of-way, together with all airport building and facilities located thereon”.
  • Prosecutor’s Review. The County Prosecutor’s Office has reviewed the proposed modifications and noted no legal concerns. The proposed regulations also appear to conform with the requirements as specified within Section 519 of the Ohio Revised Code.
For questions, please contract the Monroe Township Administrator (Woody Fox) at 740-564-0179.
